About this event
Topic - Arizona Gila Trout Fishing
Speaker - AZFGD, Biologist - Alex Loubere
My name is Alex Loubere and I am the Native Trout and Roundtail Chub Program Coordinator for Arizona Game and Fish. I am excited to present to the Arizona Fly Casters on the history and current status of Gila Trout conservation in Arizona, which encompasses around 25 years of Gila Trout management in 8 different streams. I have been with the Department for over 6 years, starting in 2019 as a sportfish research biologist before moving into my current role as the state lead for Apache Trout, Gila Trout, and Roundtail Chub in 2023. I am also an avid fly angler of around 20 years chasing everything from Cutthroat in Alpine lakes to Alligator Gar in coastal rivers in texas. I got my start fly fishing for bass, pike, carp and suckers in the rivers and ponds around my hometown of DeKalb, IL before moving to Oregon and learning how to fish for trout. I greatly enjoy all the fly fishing opportunities that Arizona has to offer, as well as speaking with the fly fishing community about my work and both the trout challenges I administer for the Department.
