AZ Kayak & Motorless Anglers Presentation
by Marvin Forte and Brian Soefje
Also featuring Dallas Shewmaker, Owner, LowerGear Outdoors
Kayak fishing is on the rise, and for good reason. The cost of entry is low, and the ongoing costs are nearly nothing when compared to other watercraft. Kayak fishing is stealthy and puts the angler closer to the water and more in tune. If you have considered getting into kayak or motorless fishing, this presentation could save you tons of time and energy. Marvin and Brian will share their experience and expertise fishing with a spinning rod, bait caster or fly rod. Multiple angling kayaks and watercraft will be on display. Marvin and Brian will also cover some of the best waters to kayak fish in Arizona, as well as answering your questions.
Marvin Forte
Marvin is on Native Watercraft’s ProStaff.
He’s one the administrators of Arizona Kayak & Motorless Anglers, a fishing club and Facebook group of over 1,900 members.
As Chapter Coordinator for the Arizona chapter of Heroes on the Water, he gives back to veterans, active military and first responders, spreading the excitement and relaxation of kayak fishing.
He’s participated in over 20 kayak fishing tournaments in Arizona, placing first, second and third.
“One of the great things about kayak fishing in Arizona, is that I can get out on the water 12 months out of the year, and when summer gets too hot, I hit the mountains for some cooler temps and different species. Some guys see a fishing kayak as a stepping stone to a bass boat, but not me. I’d rather be in a kayak than a bass boat any day. Close to water, in touch with nature, authentic. That’s why I kayak fish.”
Brian Soefje
Brian is on Hobie’s Kayak Fishing Team, Cactus Wren Outdoor’s Pro Staff, and Kistler Rod’s Regional Team. He’s also the Secretary of the Arizona Chapter of Heroes on the Water.
A regular kayak tournament angler, Brian has placed first place in over eight tournaments and he is well on his way to qualifying for the 2018 Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship.
He’s a certified AZ Game & Fish Fishing Instructor, a regular speaker at Bass Pro Shops and the International Sportsman Expo in Scottsdale. He’s an active member of the AZ Kayak and Motorless Anglers club and Facebook group (1900+ members strong. He hosts his own YouTube channel under his alias, AZKayakFisherman.
“I was introduced to the new sport of kayak fishing five years ago and I caught the bug. I enjoy fishing from a bass boat but kayak fishing is incredible! You will now see me on an Arizona lake pretty much every weekend and even some weekdays. I enjoy teaching and love talking about this great sport.“

Mike Kaul – February 2017 Presenter

BIOGRAPHY
MIKE KAUL

Mike grew up fishing the many fine streams and lakes in Sublette County located in western Wyoming.  He has taken every opportunity in the past 50 years to chase the wily trout with a fly rod in this area.  At age 8, under the tutelage of his grandfather an early settler in the Pinedale area, Mike learned and practiced the fly fishing craft with great zeal.  He has introduced fly-fishing to many individuals of all ages and backgrounds over the years and enjoys working with beginners who want to learn the art of fly-casting and fly-fishing.  Mike, a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor, conducts a fly fishing school and guides walk/wade fly fishing trips in the Pinedale area.  He is the managing partner of Two Rivers Emporium, an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Outfitter located in Pinedale.  In the off season, Mike gives power point presentations on fly-fishing in western Wyoming and conducts casting clinics for fishing clubs and other organizations throughout the United States.

WESTERN WYOMING FISHING ADVENTURES
Slideshow Into

The Bridger Wilderness located in western Wyoming encompasses nearly 400,000 acres of pristine forest, lakes, streams, and mountains, including the Wind River Mountain Range.  This vast area of unparalleled beauty, sometimes referred to as the “forgotten wilderness” because of its lack of notoriety, contains 1300 lakes, several hundred miles of connecting streams, 15 of 16 highest peaks in Wyoming, 27 active glaciers, and over 600 miles of trails.  The Wind River Mountains, the largest continuous mountain chain in the lower 48 states, produces the headwaters of a multitude of outstanding fishing streams which include great trout producing rivers such as the Green and New Fork. These venues offer anglers the chance to get away from crowds and pursue a wide variety of fresh water fish to include rainbow, brown, brook cutthroat, golden, lake (mackinaw) trout and the feisty grayling.

Mike Kaul is from Pinedale, Wyoming a small town nestled at the foot of the Wind River Mountains, which serves as a gateway to the Bridger Wilderness.  Mike who is the managing partner of Two Rivers Emporium has taken every opportunity in the past 50 years to chase the wily trout in this area with a fly rod.  He also takes pleasure in helping others enjoy the sport and is a FFF Certified Flycasting Instructor.  Mike will provide commentary and a visual experience on the lightly traveled Bridger Wilderness and focus on the trout streams flowing from the Wind River Mountains and the Wyoming Mountain Range.  In addition to fishing, he will also discuss other recreational activities featured in the area, talk about the rich history of the region and provide information on accommodations and services.
