Plan to camp at the park, or come up for the day!
The February 2010 outing will be at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood Arizona. The outing will be from Friday, February 5th through Sunday, February 7th. The group campground has been reserved for the weekend and the cost of camping will be $25.00 for Friday and Saturday nights. The camping fees will be collected by the Camp Host (Phil Wagner). If you are going to be camping, you need to stop at the main gate and let them know that you are with the AFC group. They will give you the vehicle tag and direct you to the group campground. If you are coming up just for the day, there is a day use fee of $6.00 per day per car. This is payable at the main gate upon your arrival.
There are two ponds at the park that can be fished from shore or with your float tube/pontoon boat. The entry point for people using float tubes/pontoon boats is at the paved boat launch ramps. Be careful when launching, because the boat ramp can be
very slippery. The Verde River flows adjacent to the park and offers another opportunity for stream fishing. The ponds at the park and the Verde River are stocked with trout on a regular basis during the winter months. There are scheduled stocking for the ponds during the week of January 18th and February 1st.
There will be a pot luck on Saturday afternoon at 3p.m., so bring your favorite main
dish, salad or desert. The pot luck is always a big hit at the outings and a great time to swap fishing stories. This should make for a good weekend of fishing. I look
