The following information describes the endowment/scholarship
fund that has been established at Northern Arizona University.
Two Outstanding NAU Students Selected
Two students were selected by NAU to each receive $1,000 in scholarship
money this school year. Samantha Dorr and Alex Poole will each receive the
money to offset school costs. Both are Seniors and intend to attend graduate
school with wildlife biology in mind.
Samantha has been active in conducting research on riparian areas along
the Colorado River. She indicates fond memories of fishing and a desire to
learn fly fishing. Last year she was vice-president of the NAU chapter of the
Wildlife Society. She hopes to finish her Bachelor’s degree in the Fall of this
year.
Alex has shown a deep interest in resource fisheries management. He
spends much time on Arizona waterways and is intent on working next
summer for the USFWS fisheries staff as an intern. The restoration of native
fish is one of his main areas of interest. His future goal is to gain a Master
degree and become an aquatic/fisheries biologist with a state or federal
agency. His teachers indicate he will be outstanding in this area and be
able to make significant contributions in this area.
Congratulations to these two newest recipients of the Chick Scott and Dario
Travaini Memorial Scholarships. A big thank you goes to the members of
AFC who have made this available to these young persons. In this way we
can impact fishing in a positive manner into the future.

Chick Scott and Dario Travaini Memorial Scholarship Fund
As Established by: The Arizona Flycasters
The Arizona Flycasters Club established a scholarship endowment with the Northern Arizona University Biological Sciences Department. The intention of this endowment is to assist students who as graduates will enter into the workforce as professional biologists and have a positive impact on fields such as conservation, fisheries and wildlife management along with environment improvement.
Northern Arizona University was chosen for the education institution due to its quality degree programs that support fisheries biology and related sciences.
It is the goal of The Arizona Flycasters Club to improve the endowment to the point that it can sustain meaningful distribution of funds.
The endowment has been named after two outstanding members of the Club.
Eugene “Chick” Scott
was a master educator in the art of fly tying and taught literally hundreds of people over the years the art of fly tying. To Chick it truly was an art.
Dario Travaini’s
name was added to the name of the endowment in March 2007, due to his outstanding contributions to the Club and its efforts in education and quality. He was the president of the Club at the time the endowment was initiated and he continued to support the endowment in many ways.
